Master Gibson of Jung’s TaeKwonDo in Grinnell will demonstrate and lead school-age kids in some basics of this Korean martial art. For school-age children.

Join fitness and wellness professional Wendy Ramsey and yoga instructor Monica St. Angelo to see for yourself how moving makes you feel good and teaches you fun ways to “read your body!”

Overview of Events by Day of the Week

Mondays:

Code4Kids, 1:00 – 2:00 pm

Learn Scratch, an online coding program for kids. Start with basic projects and work at your own pace. Sign up if you need to use a library computer – space is limited to eight. You can also bring your own laptop and join the fun!

Faulconer Gallery Arts Outreach in the Parks, 10:30 am (see below for locations)

Tuesdays:

Mother Goose Nursery Rhyme Time, 10:30 am (2nd & 4th Tuesday)

This storytime for infants, toddlers and parents or caregivers meets twice a month. Stories are followed by snacks.

Tuesday Games, 10:00 am – noon

Drop in and play a library game and earn a small treat. Games include scavenger hunts, skill challenges and fitness fun. First and third Tuesdays in June and July.

Wednesdays:

Special Programs (June and July)

Lunch Bunch Book Club, 12:00 – 1:00 pm (July)

This summer’s title is Flora and Ulysses, by Newbery Medal winner Kate DiCamillo. Be prepared to laugh out loud as we read about the “illuminated adventures” of a natural-born cynic, Flora, and her new-found superhero friend, an unassuming squirrel named Ulysses. For students entering 4th – 6th grades in the fall.

Thursdays:

Storytime and a Craft, 10:30 – 11:15 am

For preschool through elementary children; parents and caregivers are welcome.

Yoga in the Gallery, June 9 and 16; July 7, 14, 21 and 28

Enjoy a 30-minute yoga practice, including warming and invigorating poses and a final period of relaxation. All levels welcome; mats provided. Co-sponsored by Live Well Grinnell.

2016 Faulconer Gallery Summer Outreach Programs

All programs at the Faulconer Gallery are provided free of charge, and no registration necessary. Grinnell College does not assume responsibility for the care and safety of children who attend these events. The College makes this program open to the public with the understanding that for children who attend, a parent, legal guardian or other designated caregiver remains responsible for their care and protection. Faulconer Arts Outreach in the Parks

The Faulconer Gallery is offering free hands-on art activities for kids and families in area parks. Enjoy ceramics, painting, drawing, printmaking, marbling, paper mache, collage, truck glittering, sculpture and more! All programs meet from 10:30 am to noon.

Drop In and Draw

Drawing is a great way to see and understand a work of art. Children and adults are welcome to spend time in the gallery drawing from our exhibition, On the Bright Side. Stools, drawing supplies, and feedback from outreach curator Tilly Woodward will be provided.

Exhibition of Student Summer Artists

The community is invited to view artwork created by students and installed in the Faulconer Gallery next to works from our permanent collection. Refreshments will be served.

2016 Grinnell AmeriCorps Partnership Programs

Drake Community Library In Your Neighborhood@FV

Monday – Friday, June 27 – July 22

10:00 am – 3:00 pm

Pass the lazy days of summer with us at Fairview Elementary School yard. Activities are planned for K-6 grades. Mornings will feature local community presenters and mini-explorations about a variety of topics including STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) and art. Afternoons will be filled with reading, walking field trips and outdoor play. Participants will have the option to ride a bus to the high school for lunch at no charge. This program is drop-in, no cost. Parents/caregivers please accompany child for their first visit to complete registration. Registration forms are available online at www.grinnell.lib.ia.us.

 

Wellness@The Market with the Healthy Readers

Second Saturday at 10:30 am and third Thursday at 4:30 pm

At the Farmer’s Markets, downtown every month from May – October

Join the Healthy Readers at the Grinnell Farmers’ Markets all summer long, from May through October. At every event there will be wellness-related reading, interactive activities, a Farmers’ Market scavenger hunt, a Smoothie Bike, and prizes for completing the day’s activities. Kids will earn points toward their Summer Wellness Award, a program to encourage wellness and reading, sponsored by the Grinnell AmeriCorps Partnership and Drake Community Library.
